Refrigerator not cooling: California service guide
If a refrigerator is warming, protect perishable food first and describe which compartment has changed. The control setting, a thermometer reading and a working interior light tell you different things. You can check ordinary settings, loading and closure without opening panels or deciding which cooling part to buy.
FDA food-storage guidance recommends a refrigerator temperature of 40°F or below and a freezer temperature of 0°F. An appliance thermometer provides more useful evidence than the number selected on a control. If safe storage is uncertain, arrange suitable cold storage and consult FDA's food-specific guidance; a repair request cannot establish that food is safe.
Keep doors closed as much as practical. Record an existing reading and its time rather than repeatedly opening the cabinet. A freezer containing hard frozen items does not establish the current temperature of the fresh-food compartment.

Choose the description that fits your refrigerator
Start with the affected space. This prevents a single broad complaint from hiding a useful distinction.
Both compartments appear warm: note any outage, disabled-cooling indicator or recent setting change; use the exact manual to identify ordinary controls.
Freezer still seems cold but fresh food warms: use the split-compartment guide and record each space separately.
Only one shelf or drawer behaves differently: photograph its normal loading and any package covering an accessible vent.

Check ordinary loading and closure
Without moving the refrigerator, look for a package, bin or drawer keeping a door open, and for food covering a visible interior vent. Correct an obvious loading obstruction through normal owner access. Whirlpool lists airflow, settings and door seals among possible cooling factors; finding one does not prove that all cooling systems work.
Save the original settings before a model-approved adjustment. Do not repeatedly turn controls colder, remove evaporator covers, thaw ice with added heat or inspect refrigeration tubing. A manual's temperature-settling guidance is not permission to leave temperature-sensitive food in uncertain storage.

When the next step is service
Request an assessment if cooling remains changed after ordinary model-approved checks, or if the door will not close normally. Smoke, burning odor or water near electrical equipment takes priority over routine booking: stop use if safe and seek appropriate immediate assistance.
Provide the complete model, each compartment's reading if available, the timeline and recent work. Describe built-in panels and restricted access without moving the cabinet. Ask what diagnosis is proposed and which repair scope the written estimate covers. Model acceptance, sealed-system work and parts availability require confirmation.

Plan service within the confirmed California ZIPs
ChantaFix is based in Glendale for California service. Check the property's ZIP against the 33 listed California service ZIPs, then describe the physical address, parking and appliance access. A listed ZIP is an eligibility match, not a reserved visit or acceptance of every address. Tell us if someone else must authorize work before an estimate can be approved.

Diagnostic visit and repair approval
You receive a written estimate before repair work begins. Workmanship coverage is 90 days for the repaired issue; replacement parts follow manufacturer warranties. Use the California contact controls to discuss the appliance and request availability.

USEFUL BEFORE YOU BOOK
Your questions, answered.
More context for this guide and your next step.
Does the number on the control prove food is at that temperature?
No. It may be a selected target. Use an appliance thermometer and official food-storage guidance when deciding what to do with perishables; booking service is not a food-safety assessment.
What if the freezer is cold but the refrigerator section is warm?
Record the two compartments separately and use the split-compartment guide. Some designs share airflow and others differ, so a cold freezer does not identify a failed part or prove the fresh-food section is safe.
